I tend to think of myself as an artist who gravitates toward blacks, grays, and darkness in general. But looking back at furniture I painted, some of my absolute favorites were bold pieces in this exact color palette. One of my biggest struggles in this art journey has been my urge to rush through things and this project forced me to stop in my tracks or the whole piece would be destroyed. To create the petals, each individual layer needed to be completely dry or all the layers would bleed together, creating a muddy, opaque mess.
